Arcadia - James Gillard

James Gillard

General Manager, Fuel Supply

James co-founded Arcadia Energy in 2007 following a 20-year career in the energy industry which spanned roles with international oil major BP and Queensland government-owned electricity generator and retailer Ergon Energy. His role at BP included senior commercial appointments in London and New York where his remit covered the full spectrum of the global oil business including operations, logistics, refining, and trading. When Ergon was formed in 1999, James was recruited to establish the company’s electricity trading business. As General Manager Trading, he was responsible for the risk management of a 20 TWh per annum retail electricity book and was a senior member of the commercial team that managed the $1.2 billion sale of the business to AGL in 2007.

At Arcadia, James is a chief custodian of Arcadia’s reputation for problem solving. He applies his wealth of petroleum markets experience to answer fuel storage and supply challenges for clients throughout Australia and the wider Pacific region, particularly those in remote locations.

In between establishing Arcadia’s fuel supply arm, James traded the first Certified Emissions Reduction unit deal for AGL’s Loy Yang Power Station in 2009 before forming Indonesian Joint Venture, AEK Simonggo Energy, in 2011 to build a hydropower project in North Sumatra. The 12MW Sei Wampu 1 Project will supply around 80,000MWh per annum when it comes online in 2019.

Arcadia - Anthony Rohan

Anthony Rohan

General Manager, Generation

Anthony started his career in the agricultural commodities sector before transferring his risk management knowledge to the Australian electricity market when it first deregulated in 1998. As Manager of Contestable Business Trading with the Queensland government-owned electricity generator and retailer, Ergon Energy, he managed the largest contestable electricity portfolio in the National Electricity Market for close to a decade. The close working relationships he developed with customers helped him to develop new financial and risk products which are still widely used today.

At Arcadia, which he co-founded in 2007, Anthony has again drawn on his deep and wide understanding of commodity markets to develop products and services for clients participating in emerging renewable markets in Australia as well as the wider Asia Pacific region. He has supported over 2500 megawatts of proposed power for solar, wind, hydro, and biomass projects. His ability to solve challenges, navigate complex regulatory environments, reduce financial risk, minimise delays, save money and to simply get the job done has helped him to become a trusted business partner for numerous electricity retailers, generators, and large market end-users.
